Typical kitchen cabinet painting cost
A standard 30-linear-foot kitchen refinished with a proper degrease, sand, prime, and sprayed lacquer or urethane runs $3,000-$5,500 in the Phoenix metro. Larger kitchens with an island, pantry, and 40+ linear feet of cabinetry usually land $5,500-$8,500.
That's typically 40-60% less than replacing the same cabinets — and if the boxes are solid wood or good-quality plywood, refinishing gives you another 10-15 years of life.
What the price should include
A real cabinet job is: doors and drawer fronts removed and finished off-site or in a controlled area, hardware removed (not painted around), a full degrease (kitchen cabinets are covered in cooking oil residue that kills adhesion), a bonding primer, and two coats of a sprayed urethane or lacquer topcoat.
Brush-and-roll cabinet 'painting' at half the price will not hold up. You'll see brush marks, and the paint will chip at edges within a year.
When to replace instead
If the cabinet boxes are particleboard that's swelling from water damage, or the layout no longer works for your kitchen, replacement is the honest answer. Painting a cabinet doesn't fix a bad layout or a failing box.
