How Much to Paint a House Interior (2026 Homeowner Guide)

· 5 min read

Room-by-room and whole-home interior paint pricing, plus how ceilings, trim, and wall texture change the total.

Whole-house interior pricing

Most 2,000-2,500 sq ft interiors in the Phoenix metro repaint for $3,500 to $6,500 walls-only, or $5,500 to $9,500 with ceilings and trim included. Larger homes and homes with a lot of vaulted ceilings scale up from there.

'Walls only' is the fastest, cheapest job — but if the ceilings and trim haven't been touched in a decade, doing them at the same time is significantly cheaper than coming back later.

Per-room ranges

Bedroom (walls only): $350-$650. Bedroom with ceiling and trim: $600-$1,100. Living room / great room: $600-$1,500 depending on ceiling height. Kitchen (walls only, no cabinets): $400-$900. Bathroom: $250-$500.

Two-story entryways and stairwells always run more than they look like they should — scaffolding and cut-ins add real hours.

What raises the number

Dark accent walls being repainted light (needs a coat of primer + two color coats). Repairing drywall dings and nail pops. Repainting trim a different color than the walls. Textured walls that need extra product per square foot.

None of those are surprises — they should all show up itemized on your quote, not sprung on you halfway through.
